23DegreeTheatre Presents: Expectations
After our sold out exploration of identity through contemporary opera, 23DegreeTheatre is more than happy to return by challenging your EXPECTATIONS. Welcome to a night of contemporary opera where we promote critical thought and self-awareness. We hope to help you question your expectations when you arrive to see opera, how the stories unfold in your mind, what you think is right (theatrically, morally, socially..), how you think about social issues, and, especially, question how you think the operas should end!

The gripping story of Ruth Ellis and her entangled life with racing-car driver David Blakely and lonely businessman Desmond Cussen is one that needs to be told. Love, romance, anguish, and abusethe tragic story itself has all the drama needed to create a gripping and powerful opera. Timeless and universal in many regards, especially with the debate over capital punishment continuing today.
